Daikoku PA Opening Hours: When Does the Car Meet Actually Happen?
The parking area never closes. The car meet does. Daikoku PA is a 24-hour expressway rest stop, but the gathering of tuned cars people come to see follows its own schedule — and it is narrower than most guides admit.

Short answer
Facility: open 24 h, every day · Car meet: roughly 20:00–01:00 · Peak: 21:00–23:00 · Best nights: Friday and Saturday · Dead hours: before 19:00 and after 02:00 · Rain: clears the lot within an hour
What "open" means at Daikoku PA
Daikoku PA (大黒パーキングエリア) is a service area on the Shuto Expressway Bayshore Route, operated by the highway company. Toilets, vending machines and the convenience store are open around the clock. You can drive in at 4 AM and buy a coffee. What you cannot do at 4 AM is see the car meet — because nobody is there.
When the cars actually show up — from 97 on-site records
We have logged every visit since August 2023 with GPS timestamps. 89% of our 97 on-site records fall between 17:00 and 23:59. The single most common arrival hour is 21:00, with a second cluster at 23:00. Median time spent on site is 34 minutes — people come, walk the lot, shoot, and leave. The lot refills in waves.
17:00–19:00
Early. A few regulars, mostly trucks and commuters. Not worth the trip yet.
20:00–21:00
Filling. Convoys start arriving from Tokyo and Yokohama. Good light for photos.
21:00–23:00
Peak. 100–300 cars on a normal night, more on Saturdays. This is the window.
23:00–01:00
Thinning but still active. Owners talk more. Police patrols increase.
Which night of the week
Friday and Saturday are, without question, the busiest. Sunday is quieter but good for photos. Weeknights (Monday–Thursday) still draw 50–150 cars at 21:00 — enough to be worth it, with less crowd and easier parking. The day-of-week breakdown is covered in detail on our Best Time to Visit page.
Three things that empty the lot
Rain — a promising Saturday can be empty within the hour. Police closures — several times a year, usually long weekends; see Closure Rules. Big events elsewhere — when there is a major meet at Tatsumi or a track day, Daikoku thins out.
