Is Daikoku PA Worth It? An Honest Answer
Yes — if you understand what it is. It is not a show, not a museum, not a race. It is a parking lot where, on the right night, 200 of Japan's most interesting cars happen to be in the same place. We go every week. Here is who it is for and who should skip it.

Worth it for
Car enthusiasts
Obviously. Nowhere else on earth has this density of JDM builds in one lot, for free, every week.
Photographers
Sodium lighting, wet asphalt, concrete overpasses. The look everyone tries to copy.
Gran Turismo / Initial D / Fast & Furious fans
The cars from the games and films, owned by people who drive them. Not replicas.
Families with car-crazy kidsSafer than it sounds. Public rest area, slow-moving lot, toilets, store. See our
Family Tour.
Not worth it for
People expecting a race or drift show
Nothing moves faster than walking pace in the lot. Anyone doing burnouts gets the whole place closed.
People who want a 15-minute stop
You need an hour to walk it properly. A drive-through is a waste of tolls.
Rainy nights
Rain empties it in an hour. Check the forecast or ask us.
Early birds
Before 20:00 it is trucks and commuters. The meet starts around 21:00.
What makes or breaks the night
Timing. Arrive at 21:00 on a dry Friday or Saturday and it is one of the best car experiences in the world. Arrive at 18:00 on a rainy Tuesday and it is an empty parking lot in Yokohama. Our Opening Hours page has the data.
Arriving in the right car. This sounds snobbish. It is not. Pulling into Daikoku in a tuned Silvia or a GT-R means owners wave you over, pop hoods, talk. Pulling in in a rental Prius means you are a tourist in a parking lot. Both are fine; one is better.
Knowing it is open. Police close it several times a year. Showing up to cones is the worst outcome. See Police & Closures.
What it costs
Entry: free. Tolls if you drive: about ¥3,000 round trip from Tokyo. Rental car: ¥10,000–30,000 plus International Driving Permit. Taxi: ¥12,000–18,000 if a driver agrees. Tour: ¥15,000 per person in a van, ¥25,000–35,000 in a JDM sports car, no licence, timed for peak, with photos. Full breakdown on the Pricing Guide.
Our honest verdict
We would not run a business taking people there every night if it were not worth it. But we also tell people who want a drift show to go to Ebisu Circuit instead. Daikoku PA is a living car culture, not a performance. If that sounds like your thing, it is one of the best nights you can have in Japan. If it does not, spend the money on something else.
Frequently asked questions
Is Daikoku PA worth visiting?
Yes for car enthusiasts and photographers; usually yes for curious travellers who arrive at the right time (21:00, dry, Friday or Saturday). No if you expect a race or show.
Is Daikoku PA touristy?
Increasingly, yes — but the cars and owners are real. It is a meet, not an attraction built for tourists.
Is Daikoku PA safe?
Yes. Public rest area with lighting, toilets and a store. Cars move at walking pace. The only risk is standing in the traffic lane.
How long should I stay?
One hour minimum. Median visitor stay is 34 minutes; that is too short to see it properly.
Is Daikoku PA good for non-car people?
If they like photography, nightlife or seeing something unusual, yes. If they are bored by cars, they will be bored here.
